Ericksen-Leslie system has been the key equations in the analytic studies of liquid crystals in the past 30 years, mostly been focused on the parabolic case. In this talk, we review our studies on the hyperbolic version which was basically the coupling of Navier-Stokes and wave map type equations. In particular, we will introduce our works on: 1, global well-posedness; 2, zero-inertia limit; 3, global dissipative solutions.
